Identify the food!

mmm, this thing was yummy! It was like sour candy in fruit form! The exterior was brown, crispy and had little furry spikes, ouch! What am I?

This is a (fruit? vegetable?) piece of produce that a lady in the floating market handed to us and motioned for us to eat, but the way she did it and kept staring at us, smirking, until we ate it made us a touch suspicious. It had the texture of a stringy turnip, but the taste of a really sour lime. Maybe it's supposed to be a seasoning?

In Hoi An, my mom and Aunt stayed in the room used to film The Quiet American. We haven't seen it, but it's high on our list once we get home. This is Sara in the chair where Michael Caine contemplates life (or something).

Sara's Aunt with the jackfruit tree. We were expecting big things, but it kind of tasted like fruity banana bread. Hmm, fruity banana bread actually sounds good to me, but the jackfruit was just OK. Was it not ripe?

We just got back from Halong Bay, which was gorgeous, but the camera cord is upstairs. Next installment!

I don't think that Jackfruit are (is?) amazing in terms of taste... they're just so different from anything else I've ever had. And because they're not as piss-awful as Durian, I have a fond recollection of them....

What are you talking about Miss Nat VD - it is without doubt the bestest fruit on this plantet.
