Santiago

We made it through our overnight flight with a nine month old intact! We have been in Santiago for three days now and the weather is sunny with a high of around 30C, although it's a dry heat and there's a nice breeze. We have been staying with Luisa's sister and her place has a beautiful view of the city.

So far we've been exploring Santiago, the city has an amazing tree cover over the streets which provides welcome shade. The city has a European feel, with lots of old, grand buildings downtown and brick and cobblestone pedestrian streets. Over in the business district, the buildings look gleaming and new and each has fairly unique architecture. One has a green wall that seems to be made of climbing vines that covers the west side of the sizeable building.

Plaza Bulnes

We also visited many parks, Cerro Santa Lucia and Parque Metropolitano encompassed two hills in the city and provided great views. They also have an outdoor park that borders the 'river' that contains many large sculptures and a view of the buried highway below. We also enjoyed our tour of Pedro Neruda's house in Santiago (a Nobel prize winner and diplomat), and oggling and eating delicious fish at the central market.

Virgin at Parque Metropolitano

And yes, we expose her to the sun for photos, otherwise she's covered up!
