Java, Indonesia
For the past 2 days, we’ve been crazy clothes shopping in Bandung. They have serious factory outlet galore, as it’s a clothing manufacturing centre in Indonesia. Even Dave was ok with the shopping – he didn’t turn green, or ask for ice cream in every store, and even found jeans that fit him!
Before that we took in the cultural events in Yogyakarta - the Ramayana ballet, which had about 100 characters and had beautiful dancing (although not western-style pointes) in an open air theatre, and shadow puppet theatre in Javanese specially designed for tourists as you could watch from both behind and in front of the screen.
We fly home tomorrow... :( We’re spending our last day in Bogor, on the outskirts of Jakarta (which we’re skipping because we’re afraid that it’s like Manila). They have world class botanical gardens here, which we walked through a bit this morning and will continue after we’re done here. They have these massive almond trees shading the path, and the almonds were falling at our feet.
See you all soon!
