Singapore
We just got back from a packed 2 day trip to Singapore. Such a change from the rest of South East Asia, so sterile and organized. We spent some time walking around Chinatown, which had these beautifully restored shophouse dwellings, but unfortunately no more Chinese people, so it kind of lacked the hustle and bustle. All the people have been relocated to these highrises, many of them government built, but not given out based on need. Many aspects of Singapore reminded me of other communist societies.
We met up with a guy from our Chem Eng class who lives in Singapore, visited the Night Safari (pretty much a zoo, but at night, and you get a smidgeon closer to the animals), walked through the colonial district, and visited a few of the many museums Singapore offers. Everything is so well organized, and the english is proofread, and the transportation so efficient, it just seemed to easy compared to the rest of our trip. I'd go back to visit all of the museums they have - the ones we made it to had really interesting exhibits.
We're filling up on roti on our last day here (well Sara is, Dave's off with a headcold). Tomorrow we fly to Bali!
