Sara's final musings

The sunsets really are beautiful in Bali

After stopping in airports in Hong Kong, Taipei, Anchorage and New York, we made it home, happy and healthy. Well, some of us made it through the trip healthier than others…

Medical History

Dave (Illness / Place)

Heat rash / Taiwan
Back pain / Philippines – Sara has to carry the bags
Sunburn / Philippines – Sara is getting tired of carrying the bags
Traveller’s diarrhea / Borneo – Antibiotics and an IV drip!
More heat rash / Cambodia
Traveller’s diarrhea / Vietnam – Antibiotics
Traveller’s diarrhea / Laos – Antibiotics for the third time... Dave could be harbouring the new superstrain of bacteria…
Mad head cold / Singapore – His immune system took care of this one!

Sara

Immune system of steel!

We got a good tour of the hospitals, clinics and pharmacies of Southeast Asia, and finally got use of that travel insurance!

It was an amazing trip, and there are definitely places that we want to go back to (Borneo, Indonesia and the Philippines for sure). My favourite destination was seeing the turtles nesting in Borneo, an absolutely amazing experience which isn’t likely to last long as the leatherback is already approaching extinction in the area. Other highlights were the hill tribes in Northern Vietnam, the rice terraces and cave in the Philippines, the beaches in Malaysia. Oh, and the food, glorious food, which was cheap and, with a few exceptions, delicious!

Now it’s back to Ottawa, living at home (is there anyone lurking that wants to play?) and lo and behold, looking for a job (if anyone knows of anything, let me know!).

It's great to have you back in the land of suburban sprawl and houses that could fit 8 Vietnamese families!

Thanks for keeping up SUCH a great blog and giving me something to look forward to over my morning cup of tea :)

Wow ~ didn't realize you'd gotten back. Sara - I've got a few messages from you over the months and realized I haven't emailed you, and that I should.

So here I am typing you a message and realized I don't know your email address. How sad is that?

I guess I'm not really so good at keeping in touch, but I'd like to be.
